Page 2 and Spider Diagram

Following Page one (which was enclosed in the previous post) i did an analysis of it on page two. this was basically just what i wrote as captions.

as well as a title page, all art books SHOULD have a spider diagram. once again, since i found it hard to concentrate on this sort of art, i blended it with my musical interest.

here is the centre of the A3 spider diagram. it is based on the front cover of 'The Resistance' by Muse, one of my favourite bands. once again, i used colouring pencil for this, so not much mixed media at all. one thing i found difficult was aligning all the little hexagons, once i had finally done that, all i had to do was colour it in.

the full image of the page. i was also quite pleased with this. looking around the class room in the lesson i could see talent that i would never stand up to, but i found this satisfying just the same, as it held my interest and was colourful. the marching skeleton and his parade are from the poster i got inside the album 'The Black Parade' by My Chemical Romance, and are done in charcoal. overall, this page also reaches a B grade.

Title Page

The first shot of two of the most difficult part of the page- the ear. i found that skin has a massive veriaty of colours in it, which ended up being really difficult replicate using coloured pencil. i am, however, pleased with this part of  the page.

the phone box- this was the first part of the page completed, after filling in the back ground of the black coloured blue, and the writing in the sunny yellow, i decided to have a go at my first attempt at detail. not much to say, as i am neothe pleased or dis pleased with the result.

Completed study - after spending a fair few hours on this, it was happy with the outcome. i felt that the coloured pencil actually worked here, and it was done in this media because i had little confidence in my painting skills, especially in such detail. as you may6 be able to notice, it is based on the front cover artwork of the kaiser chiefs 4th album, the future is medieval.the fact that the theme was based around music helped me, as it shows that i like music, thus fitting the 'I, Me, Mine' title, and it was motivational, as i held an interest in both the surrealistic theme of the art work, and music. so this was a very good theme to choose for a title page. personally, this shows none of the 4 main criteria, apart from a range of media, as it used both colouring pencil and pen. however, this really wasnt exploring much 0on the media front, but it could gain marks for quality of drawing etc. so maybe a B.

this is the horse and its rider; a wolf. basically i was pleased with this section of detail, as it was perceived to be the most difficult (were as the ear actually was and this was probably second), and so i thought it came out well. as we can see, i have almost finished the page now, the road isn't coloured in yet, but almost everything else is.

the mouse was also perceived to be quite challenging, it did, however, prove to be quite easy in the end, and it looked ok as well.

as we can see, this is one of the first shots of development, at this stage i didnt know how well it was going to turn out,. this is quite vital for an artist, because i should have had an image of what could have gone wrong, and therefore avoided it. fortunately, nothing really want wrong here, but it on its own wouldnt gain me much marks, as it wasnt really development.

So this is my first page in my sketch book. basically our teacher told us to create a title page for 'I, Me, Mine' which is our topic. in the photos below i show how i made this page, but basically all you need is one form of media you can defiantly do and an interest. remember this is a long shot off top level stuff.

Art Criteria and Motivation

Before getting all fancy on you with pictures and drawings, i will have to go through the criteria you need for GCSE. basically, it is split into four sections. development, media, analysis and final piece. since im a student, what im saying might not be accurate at all, but thats how i see it. anyway, the most important is probibly development. this is your course work. it should and probibaly will enclude;

• Primary sources (photos)
• secondary sources (artist research)
• response to primary and secondary research

all of those are pretty vital to do.

motivation in anything can be difficult. as you will see in upcoming posts, my first pages (which are fairly abysmal) are all related to music that i am into, because i found it easier to work on them that way. so to motivate i'd base art on your interests.

Art GCSE - Blog Introduction

This blog isn't about being amazing at art. this blog's about surviving art GCSE, its soul purpose is to guide you through your Art GCSE with as little struggle as possible. if you are anything above a B grade at art you shouldn't need the help that this website will offer.

this blog is about a person who struggles with their art GCSE, whether it be with general ability, analysis, ideas, resources, meeting criteria or even one who struggles to find a decent artist for their upcoming project.

so, this blog will contain pictures of my own (and perhaps a few others as it develops) art, how my sketch I'book progresses as I go on. if any of you want to know, im currently finishing year ten, and so will be able to show case my entire sketch book as it progresses next year, and all my work that I am just starting to do that will lead up to my 5 hour mock exam later on this year. i will also show case the completed parts of  my currently uncompleted art book.
